My Pretend Life

Making Dreams Come True: Hope, Courage, and Hard Work

The odds were certainly against me when it came to ever making dreams come true. I mean, let’s face it, I was just a little Cuban girl. That alone should tell you about the stories that should’ve been written in my “book of life”. I dreamed daily about seeing the world and being free but that was an impossible mission according to what society and most people had decided for me.

There were a series of events that continuously gave me hope all throughout. However, hope alone is not enough. Hope is necessary, but without the courage to take the reins of your own life and begin to work hard as you put one foot in front of the other, it is nothing. So one foot in front of the other I put. Fast-forward three years to my feet having walked through 29 countries.

I humbly started this journey for me, for my heart to flourish. Now I realize that my mission has turned into something more. Now I know that this was never about making dreams come true only for myself. You see, when I first contemplated traveling I was inspired by so many travel bloggers and Instagram influencers who posted amazing content, but I never saw myself in them. I never saw a little Cuban woman with little resources take the leap of faith.

It was discouraging because when we can’t see ourselves represented in certain areas, we don’t think we belong there. BUT WE DO! This is why I share my journey online because WE BELONG HERE. You and I belong here, where our dreams are meant to take us! It won’t be easy but if you have hope, manage to garnish the courage, and begin  putting one foot in front of the other, you will get there.
